Matthew Barber @ Moonshine Juicery
Waterloo, ON, May 22, 7:30 PM
Matthew Barber is a singer-songwriter from Toronto who has released eight studio albums and toured extensively across Canada with inroads into Europe, the US, Australia and China. Equally at home as a solo performer or with a band, Barber’s music is inspired largely by the great songwriters of the 20th century North American folk/blues/rock’n’roll and country tradition. Following his Gary Louris-produced Big Romance (2014) and Juno-nominated collaboration with sister Jill on The Family Album (2016), his new album marks Barber’s confident return to producing himself, with veteran Ken Friesen handling the engineering duties. The introspective, first person narrative voice that has become a hallmark of Barber’s writing is further developed and refined on this new collection of songs that explore themes of love, commitment, purpose, fulfillment and meaning. Throughout, Barber’s delivery is honest and direct in a style that tips its hat to the golden era of 70’s singer-songwriters, yet remains uniquely his own. His new album Phase Of The Moon came out earlier this year. - - - we are in a restored barn from the 1860s. It is beautiful, bright and has high ceilings
