Dan Mangan performs Club Meds
I can't properly articulate how important this recording was to my development as an artist. It broke me open in many ways. I found a voice in the writing of these lyrics - a viewpoint from which to approach topics and sentiments I'd been trepidatious to tackle previously. It was my opus. Blacksmith was an ensemble that had been chiselled into place through years of intense work. I am deeply inspired by the performances from Gordon, Kenton, Johnny, Jesse and JP on Club Meds. Throughout my career, I've stumbled into some of the most capable hands possible. I'm filled with a joyful affirmation every time I receive a note from somebody who truly GETS this album. I'll be doing Q&A and discussing some history behind the songs and how they came to fruition. It's going to be a big ol' reminisce. I'm saving 30 guest-list spots for those who are not in a position to purchase a ticket but would like to be a part of this event - email weeklysidedoor@gmail.com with the subject "Guestlist July 18" and let me know. No explanations necessary and no questions asked. Much love, Dan
